Describe the problems psychology must face as a young science
-Problems psychology faces as a young science is that psychology can change so fast and people are not the same as they used to be. Because of that people don't use the old methods of psychologists and only look at the new information coming out. With the DSM changing quite often people that once had a disorder may not have the disorder anymore or may fall under a different criteria. Many times people say that psychology is not a science because there is always someone different that doesn't fit into the category and in order to be a science it has to be the same all the time.

Identify the major theoretical and professional perspectives in psychology and their basic assumptions.
Humanism- studies the whole person and looks at the human behavior through the eyes of the people doing the behaviors. Humanism says that every person is unique in their own way. Carl Rogers and Abraham Maslow are the two most known humanisitc psychologists.
Biological- these psychologists study how the genes we were born with can affect our behavior. Biological perspective studies how the brain is mapped out and how chromosomes and hormones affect behavior and also how gender affects it too. Charles Darwin is the first biological psychologists that studied hoe genetics play the role in evolution.
Struturelism- structurlism is the breaking down of how mental process work. Structurelism looks at how conciousness. Wilhem Wundt was the first structuralist finding the first psychology lab.
Functionalism- functionalism is about people's thought and conscious mind. Functionalism is asking the question why or why something happened and trying to find the answer.

Describe the characteristics of a good (reliable) theory.
- A good reliable theory has to be able to be replicated meaning someone else could do the theory and get the same results, you can actually be able to test it, you must be able to prove it true more than once you should be able to do the test over and over again and still get the same results.

Describe what constitutes valid and reliable observation especially with regards to operationalizing variables, experimenter bias, demand characteristics, and unobtrusive measures.
- A valid observation is something that is true and confirms that it has never been altered. A reliable observetion means that it can be replicated. Experimenter bias means that the person doing the experiment needs to have an open mind when ding the study or that could alter to outcome. Unobtrusive measures is not telling the people you are studying to do some thing because then it alter how they think.

Describe the differences between correlational and experimental research especially with respect to issues of causality and prediction.
-Correlational research is a measurment of 2 variables can be from +1 to -1 which shows he relationship of the 2 varibles and if it's a zero then there is no relationship between the 2 things. Experimental research is about manipulating the independent variable usually in a controlled environment it helps us understand things and behaviors better and what may cause it. With correlational research it doesn't prove what caused it.
